Part one: Module 6 : Reflection 1 -- Article - Classroom Management with Exceptional Learners
Our article for this week describes and discusses effective classroom management practices. The implementation of effective classroom management practices will help to promote a positive classroom climate that supports the maximization of student academic achievement, to include students with disabilities.
The following reflection prompts are designed to help you more closely examine these concepts and share your personal feelings and opinions about them as an educator.

Prompt:
Classroom management practices, if implemented correctly and consistently, can increase the likelihood of improved student behavior and academic outcomes (Myers, Freeman, Simonsen, & Sugai, 2017).

Part two: Module 6: Discussion 1 -- Preparing the Instructional Environment for Students with Disabilities
Chapter 4 of your text describes classroom management strategies, and positive behavioral supports and interventions that assist in managing difficult student behaviors. As well, strategies for preparing the instructional environment for students with disabilities are discussed.
The following discussion questions are designed to help you more closely examine this concept.

Read Chapter 4 and Review Case Study #1.
Provide a written response to the discussion questions below:
Using Case Study #1:
1. Describe a teaching strategy that you would use to assist this student in achieving one of the academic goals you created for his IEP in Module #3. Include the goal in your response.
2. Describe a behavior strategy that you would use to assist this student in decreasing the undesirable behavior described in the behavior goal you created for his IEP in Module #3. Include the goal in your response.

Part three: Module 6: Assignment 1 -- Case Study #3 IEP Development & Curriculum Overview
In this course, students are expected to apply knowledge of the individual developmental, academic, and social needs of K-12 students with disabilities to develop comprehensive IEPs. These IEPs should include a student’s present level of academic and social performance, and goals based on the student’s developmental needs, to include the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse individuals across diverse settings.
Instructions:
Maria Stevens is a 16-year-old 10th grade student with an emotional behavioral disorder. She is currently in high school and her classroom placements are a combination of ESE subjects and general education subjects based on individual needs.
1. Using case study #3 (Maria), complete “all” sections of the IEP template based on her current placement, to include the following:

2. Develop a written curriculum overview for this student (Maria). Identify appropriate accommodations and/or modifications pertinent to an inclusive classroom for each of Maria’s general education placements, in each of the following areas as appropriate:
classroom and behavior management
instructional strategies and academic procedures
testing accommodations
instructional materials/resources
Submission Instructions:
1. This assignment should be submitted to Canvas as two documents:
a) The completed IEP template.
b) A written document with a minimum of four (4) paragraphs, following APA guidelines to include title page, in-text citations, and reference page.
