Title: Title your post and insert the images you have chosen to represent femininity and masculinity beneath the title.
Paragraph 1: Name and cite the web source of the image you chose as the embodiment of femininity (in journal 1).
Start your paragraph by naming who or what you are describing and by naming the gender performance category you describe.
In the second sentence describe how the picture you selected illustrates that gender. In other words, look at the picture, what are the qualities in the picture that match with the ones in your descriptive list?
Find and insert a quote from the readings that support your description.
Use your last sentence to highlight one idea regarding performing femininity.
Paragraph 2: Use the image you chose as an embodiment of masculinity (in journal 1) and follow the same directions as given for paragraph 1.
Paragraph 3: Reflect and write about your gender performance as you are comfortable and able. If this topic is triggering for you, or you wish to not share about your gender please feel free to alter the topic of this paragraph as you desire. Think about how you define yourself in terms of gendered categories -- masculine, feminine, trans, fluid, non-binary, tomboy, butch, girly, athletic, buff, etc. Are their categories that ring true for you, and others that do not? Who or what most influences your performance of gender? Do particular social situations influence your performance of gender either in fashion, body stance, body movement, or style? To what extent do you feel that family or peer group membership determines your performance of gender? Here is an example:
Who: My mother was the person who influenced me the most.
What: What I learned about femininity and gender performance expectations from her were things like x, y, and z.
How: She modeled these things through her appearance, the work she did at home, her occupation, the way she dressed, the way she expected me to dress, and the things she expected me to do.
Paragraph 4: This paragraph is the conclusion. Here you want to summarize your findings (what you learned about yourself, about gender, about performance) and offer the reader an idea about why what you just summarized might be important or interesting to you. Be concise in your ideas. Let your last paragraph draw from media messages about gender performativity, cultural (family) expectations, your body, and your lived experience
