Listen to Amy Cuddy's TED Talk titled "Your Body Language May Shape Who You Are (Links to an external site.) https://www.ted.com/talks/amy_cuddy_your_body_language_may_shape_who_you_are?language=en
" and take notes. Then, answer the following questions from and based on the Talk. Each question is worth three points: a point for accuracy, a point for clarity, and a point for appropriate development (this will vary according to the question).
The Questions
1. Summarize Cuddy's view on how our body language shapes other people's perspective of us as well as how it shapes our own perspective of ourselves.
2. Explain the relationship between hormones/cortisol to power & powerlessness.
3. In the context of this speech, what does the expression "fake it til you make it" mean?
4. Describe each of the five poses of power and each of the five poses of powerlessness. What is each person doing?
5. Summarize the methodology of Cuddy's first experiment.
6. Cuddy applies the results of her experiment to an "evaluative situation," which is a job interview. She notes, however, that evaluative situations vary from person to person and social role to social role. You likely don't have a job interview coming up, so identify AND explain an "evaluative situation" in which you might apply Cuddy's results to your own life.
7. What are the six variables on which we evaluate "presence," according to Cuddy?
8. In the last 5 minutes of the TED Talk, Cuddy shares a personal story. Summarize the story. Then, share your reaction to it.
9. Reflect on your posture/body language in your first day presentation and think about the "poses of power" and the "poses of powerlessness." Which do you think you exhibited most often during the presentation
