answer this question. based on this: The industrial age transpired a massive migration into urban cities. Although, business was thriving and the overall economy was booming. The American dream of escaping poverty through the workforce gave citizens an incentive to move. These areas became extremely crowded. Tenants or slums were filled with low income citizens. Urban housing was scarce which contributed to the way of living. The average living space for the working class served as a resting place or pitt stop.
In the readings the authors highlighted the main objective of the state which was economy. As millions of dollars were being poured into industrial infrastructure, citizens were not receiving aid to accommodate their living conditions. In the Eagles of Great towns text it states, “He knows that every breeze that blows every whim of his employer, every bad turn of trade may hurl him back into the fierce whirlpool of his employer from which he has temporarily saved himself” In this quote it is evident industrialization did not meet the ultimate need of citizens. The desire to be self sufficient or ability to ensure well being was not met. Although the state, and wealthy class invested capital, and citizens worked, happiness was difficult to attain. Although the industrialization age made it possible for citizens to escape poverty nothing was established to help the poor or does who would never attain wealth. What do you think the state or business at the time could of done for the poor and working class?
