Instruction
This activity relates to the chapter topic of protein. You will need to do a little math but it is not that hard! After reading the protein chapter, you can now appreciate all that protein does for us. While we need some, we really don’t need a lot. Below is an example of a high protein diet! -[Picture of The Rock's Diet]-
Of course, the Lion’s blood is a joke, but this is supposedly what “The Rock” ate while training for the movie ‘Hercules’. This totals about 4260 kcals and 450 grams of protein. According to online sources, Dwayne Johnson weighs about 121 kilograms.
For this activity, answer the following. You can use a file upload or type your answers to the questions in the text box (available once you click on 'submit assignment'.
1. Calculate The Rock’s protein needs using his body weight (using the RDA see page 220 in the text)-[Upload Pictures].
2. Do you think athlete’s need more than the RDA? If yes, how much more (state a specific gram/kg amount) and why? If no, why not?
3. List at least ONE health consequences of consuming excess protein. Do not say kidney disease - there has not been a known case of kidney disease caused by a high protein diet (a high protein can make some types of kidney disease worse). Also don't say weight gain - it is true that any excess kcal can be converted to body fat, The Rock will not believe you if you told him he was going to get fat from his diet plan!
