For this assignment, write an essay of 2-3 pages in response to one of the following prompts: 1 Based on your reading of Othello, what is Shakespeare’s overall view of women? (If you choose this option, you must include specific details, including direct quotes and examples, from the play.) 2 Based on your reading of Othello, what is Shakespeare’s overall view of love? (If you choose this option, you must include specific details, including direct quotes and examples, from the play.) 3 Compare the depiction of race (or racism, if you think it’s applicable) in Othello to the depiction of race or racism in a modern text (play, book, film, TV show). What do the similarities or differences tell you about our society vs. Shakespeare’s? (If you choose this option, you must include specific details from Othello, including direct quotes and examples.  Also remember that you must connect the similarities and/or differences between the two texts to a larger point about race/racism in Shakespeare’s time vs. today’s society.) Your essay must: • contain a thesis stating a clear main point for your essay. (Although these are very brief writing assignments, they still need to be coherent essays organized around a single thesis.) • be well-organized (Again, these should follow all the conventions and requirements of an academic essay.) •  include specific details (including direct quotes and examples) from the play to illustrate each of your points
