or this assignment, you will read three articles on pandemics. These articles can be found as PDFs on Canvas. One is my own article. I don’t ask you to read it just because it is mine but more importantly because I wrote it back in 2011 and even rereading it myself, I see how some of what is happening now was completely unknown to me almost ten years ago. I think you will find that in the other articles as well. This project is worth 25% of the final grade.

Instruction
Read and evaluate the three articles. In a 3-5-page report, identify what you see as lacking from the articles in contrast to what we are experiencing today. For example, ten years ago, I don’t think many people would have identified the huge impact to the professional sports world a pandemic would have yet look how it has affected sports and in turn, peoples jobs and income. I do not mean just the athletes. Think about all the people that work at any given ballpark or stadium parking cars, working security, or selling food concessions. They are all out of jobs because of the pandemic. Identify how leaders might address the aspects you identify. Identify what YOU recognize as the hot topics relating to the pandemic (shutdowns, wearing masks, etc. just to name a few) and identify what leadership traits might be used in meeting those challenges. I don’t think you have to look too far to see how some of the smallest items like wearing a mask have challenged people in public leadership. Include how YOU as a college student are affected and what you expect from your public leaders. This class was always intended as fully online, but you probably have other hybrid courses or courses that have been altered to meet the needs of social distancing. If you have a class that has a lab such as chemistry or similar, how is that being handled and what elements of leadership went into just determining how to change the rules yet still be able to meet the intent of your college studies.
