Instruction
Reading responses must demonstrate that you have read the assigned materials and that you have thought
about their contents. Rather than providing a summary of the readings, responses must draw from concepts,
ideas, and issues from the readings in an integrative way --i.e., how the readings speak to each other; do they
touch on different issues?, use different approaches?, offer different points of view or analytical lenses?
Remember to focus on whether or how they have helped you to understand the ways in which different
individuals or groups of people view, experience, address, or are affected by environmental issues in rural
areas of the Global South. What kinds of insights did you gain from them? Do they raise new questions for
you? The response should make a specific claim about how the readings relate to each other in the
introduction and support this claim with evidence from the readings in the body of the paper. Grades will be
assigned on the response as a whole.
