Module 2: Discussion 1 -- Cultural Responsiveness
Chapter 3 of your text discusses the fact that students and families will increasingly represent culturally and linguistically different groups and how this may impact the expectations for special education professionals and the participation of students and their families in transition planning
The following discussion question is designed to help you more closely examine the concept of cultural responsiveness.
Instructions:
Provide a written response to the discussion question below:
Discuss culturally responsive strategies that optimize participation of students and their families in transition planning.
Submission Instructions:
Answer the question thoroughly, following the APA guidelines when citing references from the book and other sources. Your responses must be a minimum of 3-4 sentences and clearly written without grammatical and/or spelling errors. Students are reminded to use respectful language that is void of any derogatory terms or slurs. These instructions are to be applied to both posts--your initial response and feedback provided to your peers.
All postings will be graded using the discussion rubric.
Part 2: Module 2: Reflection 1 - Article - Avoiding Substantive Errors in Individualized Education Program Development
The five errors discussed in this week’s article are the errors that, when committed, are most likely to lead to inappropriate IEP content and the possibility of parents making the decision to file a lawsuit against their school district.
In Module 5 of this course you will develop a Transition Individualized Education Program (ITP) and you will need to be mindful to make sure that you do not make these errors.

Your response to the prompt must be a minimum of 2 paragraphs and clearly written without grammatical and/or spelling errors. Students are reminded to use respectful language that is void of any derogatory terms or slurs. Part 3: Module 2: Assignment 1 -- Survey on Transition Questionnaire
In this course, students are expected to evaluate the current state of the transition process in the surrounding school districts and its impact on the quality of life for students with disabilities in our community, including the post-secondary school years.
Instructions:
Actively participate in the virtual "Meeting with Transition Experts".
Based on the knowledge gathered during the "Meeting with Transition Experts" and your summary of research completed in Module 1, students will develop a survey questionnaire (10 questions).
The expectation is that the responses to your survey questionnaire could be used to inform teachers, school administrators, and decision makers about how to enhance the independent living skills programs in our schools.
The questions you create must be designed to elicit responses that will give you a clear understanding of the quality of a local transition program and the level of satisfaction your survey participants have with their local transition program. As well, you will want to elicit suggestions for improvement of these programs.
