PHIL 3512: Philosophy of Music Exam II A few general instructions: (1) Your take-home exam assignment is to write an approx. 2-page paper. (2) Be sure to use standard 12-point font, with one-inch margins on all sides. (3) Also write your name and your email address on the top of your paper. (4) Your exam is due Thursday, November 4th. Assignment: Pick any one of the readings broadly on the topic of music and the emotions that we have discussed the entire month of October (from 10/1 through 10/29). In approx. one page, sum up some of the main claims of the reading you have chosen. Imagine you are writing for an intelligent friend or reader who wants to know what this essay/chapter is saying. In the next page or so, assess the reading. Are the claims of this essay/chapter valid? If not, what can you say to challenge or cast doubt on them? And how, if at all, might the author(s) respond or reply to your concerns? Feel free to look at the readings themselves and the recordings I made for you. Remember also that you also have Tuesday, November 3rd (Election Day) to work on the exam, as we will not have a session until Thursday,
