The essay should include the following elements. Introduction: Include these elements: Explain the purpose of the essay. Include a clear thesis statement. Introduce and define the concept of gender polarization. Body of the Paper: This section of the paper should have three paragraphs. Observation Report Describe in detail the results of your observation of a retailer’s display of items for sale for women and men. Include these elements: Date, time, and place of observation The specific types of items for men and women for which you observed the method of display. Your observations about whether gender polarization is evident in the display of items. For example, are there separate departments or different sections of the same aisle, or are items for men and women displayed together? Explain whether you think the overall display method at this location is best described by biological essentialism, androcentrism, or neither of these concepts. Gender from the Structural Functionalist Perspective Define the structural functionalist paradigm. Use the structural functionalist paradigm to explain the utility of organizing items for sale by gender. Give at least one example to illustrate the structural functionalist perspective of using gender as a way to organize goods for sale. Influences on Gender Construction Describe how history, culture, and globalization processes have influenced gender construction as evident by the types of products that are for sale. Explain how gender construction is evident in the way the products are displayed. Conclusion: Use the first part of this final section of the paper to review the main points made in the paper. The review segment should be at least four sentences. End the paper with an opinion-based comment on how, if at all, globalization processes are likely to affect the widely followed practice of organizing items for sale by gender in the future. This section of the paper should be at least three sentences. Reference Page: This page should have at least one academic reference listed that was cited in the essay. The textbook is the preferred reference for this Assignment. The reference should be in APA 6th edition formatting.
