For this assignment, you will write a 5-8 page essay based the prompt below. Your essay should include: • a clear thesis • specific details (including quotes) from course readings in at least four readings we have studied in class (two of the readings must come from after the midterm) to illustrate each of your points (Make sure that the examples that you use come from texts that have actually been assigned in this class.) • information from at least three scholarly sources you found through your own research (in addition to whatever class materials you use). READING GUIDES LIKE SHMOOP, SPARK NOTES, ETC., DO NOT COUNT AS RESEARCH. Remember that this assignment is to be a research-based literary analysis paper. See the “Guide for Writing in English” I have posted on for more information and helpful tips. • proper MLA-style citations of any information used, whether you use direct quotes or not. This includes in-text citations and a Works Cited page formatted according to MLA guidelines. Choose one of the themes listed below and explain how that theme is reflected over the course British literature that we have read so far. You should consider how the different aspects the social, cultural, and political circumstances in which each work of literature was produced affect ideas about that theme.
