Write a 2- to 3-page memo (single spaced, 1" margins, Times 12-point font). I have attached two resources for you on how to write a policy memo. This is not a research report, but it is based on research and your knowledge of an issue. This memo is practice for your final paper in this class (we will discuss that next month). For this memo, I would like you to address it to the Police Chief and Mayor of Kenosha, Wisconsin. The purpose of this memo is to look at department-community relations within the lens of recent events and the history of policing in an American context and in your 2-3 pages outline the problems and make recommendations of solutions in the short and long term. Brevity is key in this style of writing - you want to get to the point fast and you want to convince the reader of your position. There will be no discussion board this week - this assignment alone is a decent amount of work. Between the news articles on the matter and the historical background from the HKS reading last week you have the groundwork for this memo. That said, do not rely on what I have given you alone, I expect you to look at other sources as well in your analysis.
