Paper #1 Prompt: What does the code of Hammurabi tell us about Babylonian [Mesopotamian] society? For example, what do we learn about the Babylonian notion of justice? About social classes? About marriage and the family? About women? About property?

Assault and injury: 195, 196, 197, 198, 100, 200, 201, 202. Liability: 229, 230, 231, 232, 251, 252. Discussions: Law codes are a excellent primary source. The outline major features of a society. But note there are limitations. Are all of Hammurabi's laws followed? Of course not! Some inhabitants follow the laws -- some do not. The laws reveal a broad range of behaviors. Remember that the laws are written by the literate, powerful few. Remember also to always consider the social context of the society in which they are established. The aim of this paper is for you to read the document -- the primary source -- and write YOUR OWN understanding and analysis of the Code. You may consult other sources -- and you do have the account in your textbook. But again - the aim is for you to develop your own capacities to read and understand and analyze primary documents. ALL papers in this course are based on primary sources. We are not interested in what others have written -- we are interested in YOUR understanding and analysis. Do not plagiarize. · Carefully read and understand the assignment above and examine the grading rubric below so that you can complete the assignment. The grade will be determined with the Rubrics below on how well you achieve the objectives of the assignment. The book should be used to complete this assignment but additional research may be employed to achieve the best possible grade. Please use proper citation when utilizing sources, both the text (or other secondary sources) and primary sources. I suggest using the Chicago Manual of Style (typical for historians). I also suggest you use footnotes. The page length for this assignment is a minimum of two pages; 1.5 spaced with one inch margins in 12 point Times New Roman font. Include at least TWO quotations from the Code of Hammurabi (the primary source) with proper documentation using footnotes. Again - I suggest using the Chicago Manual of Style for citations and for your bibliography. For example -- a footnote has this formatting: 1 Edward H. Judge & John W. Langdon, Connections: A World History, vol 1 Second Edition (Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson, 2012), p. 37.

In my extensive history of working on students’ assignments, I have learned one thing: Each assignment must be custom-made and should stand on its own merits. No essay will ever reach its full potential if it’s being worked on by a disinterested person. I have written thousands of assignments and most clients have come back to appreciate me for good result. Given chance, i will do my best to produce an A++ assignment.
