InstructionBe sure to read the Discussion Board Grading Rubric/Instructions by following the link below -- note that to prevent everyone waiting until the last minute to post and thus defeating the purpose of a week-long discussion, your TWO initial/original posts will be due by Thursday; TWO response posts are due by Sunday (you will post a total of 4 posts). TECA 1303 Discussion Forum Participant Grading Rubric.pdf Note that posts that repeat what others have said, simply agree/disagree with someone else, copy & paste information straight from the book/not paraphrased properly, will earn no/minimal credit. Your posting should be original (not previously posted), fully explained, directly aligned to the assignment directions, detailed, and insightful. Ensure that your posting is free from errors (spelling, capitalization, punctuation, grammar). A good practice is to compose posts in a word processor and run spell check etc. on it to catch errors. Please write in complete, coherent sentences. Your posts need to be in paragraph form and spaced appropriately so that they are easy to read. Make sure to give credit to information you learned from your textbook, articles, or outside sources by using APA formatted in-text citations and cite your sources at the end of your post. As always, please be caring and respectful to each other on the DB. Remember that we all have different ways of communicating, some more curt than others. We are all entitled to our opinions (no matter how outrageous!). Please be gracious when you disagree with someone and gracious when someone disagrees with you. Some people are more passionate than others about their beliefs and that’s okay! Remember, that your goal is not to convert each other; it is to allow others to see your perspective. And let’s try to learn something new and different from each other through the posts! Create a new thread for each discussion & follow the instructions below about titles for each thread IMPORTANT: For each of your Initial posts include an APA citation for information you pull from external sources; the citation for the textbook is: Epstein, J.L. (2011). School, family, and community partnerships (2nd ed.). Westview Press. The in within text citation for the above is: (Epstein, 2011). Discussion 2 Homework Debate (First Initial Post) - Please title your 1st Initial Post as Discussion 2 Homework Debate Read the readings posted in this week's D2L module, as well as the following two articles, on the pros and cons of homework: http://www.westasd.org/Downloads/hmwk_resrch.pdf https://www.livescience.com/19379-homework-bad-kids.html Take a stance on the issue of homework -- Should children be given homework or should they not? Write a convincing argument for why children should or should not have homework. You may consider taking a stance opposite of what you really believe for the sake of intellectual practice and argument building. Discussion 2 General (Second Initial Post) - Please title your 2nd Initial Post as Discussion 2 General Your post below should pertain to Reading 3.8. The purpose of this general post is to explore your own understanding of the weekly material and how it relates to other aspects of your life, your interests, your other courses, etc. You can address any or all of the following -- you do NOT have to answer everything below, you can choose what to answer: -Recap the main ideas of the theory/theories we covered this week and what spoke to you the most based on your personal and professional interests. -Describe the most interesting thing that you learned in your required reading. -Describe the most interesting thing that you learned from your discussion forum. -What is one unanswered question that you have about the theory or topic? -Select one of the theories that we covered this week and describe how it could be applied to life/work/interests/etc. This can be a way to personally relate the material (for example, how could this theory be used to describe something you see in your work? Or at home? Or in another class?) or it may be more general (for example, how could this theory be used to address an issue in the world, in schools, in public policy, etc?). Be sure that you are not reciting the applications that were discussed in the weekly material, but rather extending those applications, providing a specific example, or coming up with a new idea. Be creative!
