Follow these basic requirements for your paper Your research paper is due Sunday of week 7. If you want an "A" on your paper, keep reading.... I am admittedly a tough grader when it comes to papers, but if you follow the below instructions, you will do great. Below are the basics that need to be included: A separate title page with your name, date, class, and instructor name A separate resource page A separate abstract page. Yes, an abstract is required and should be about 100-150 words describing what your paper is going to be about. You will need a statement in your abstract such as, "This paper will discuss.... Do not put "I" or "we" in your abstract or your paper. More about that aspect is described below. APA style submission. Utilize the attached sample APA style paper as a guide for citing purposes (key words, graphs, tables are not required for this assignment so please avoid using them contrary to the sample guide. https://www.antioch.edu/santa-barbara/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2019/12/APA-7-Writing-in-APA-7th-Ed-Example-Paper.pdf A minimum of 1,200 words which do not include the title page, resource page, or abstract. A minimum of 5 scholarly sources of which at least 3 must come from peer reviewed journal articles retrieved from the APUS Library. -3pts for each APUS peer reviewed article that is not included. Do not start out your paper with a 91% for failing to include these! All sources must have the full URL listed so that your source and information can be verified. A properly APA formatted peer reviewed journal article must contain a DOI# or other identifier as being a peer reviewed journal article. This is a proper example of a full URL of a peer reviewed journal article as coming from the APUS library; Weinberg,Morris "Sandy",,Jr. (2018). CHAIR'S COUNSEL. Criminal Justice, 33(2), 1-28. Retrieved from https://search-proquest-com.ezproxy1.apus.edu/docview/2157810831?accountid=8289 **Hint: The very first area I check on your paper will be the sources. Your source, unlike in the APA sample paper guide, but like the sample a sentence above from the APUS library must link to the full article and not simply an abstract, a paid or password protected site. Sources must be within the last 5 years. No sources prior to 2016 will be allowed unless it is referencing a case law. Up to date research is required. Do not use charts, graphs, bullet points, or pictures. Great for high school, not for college At least 1 case law associated with your topic must be discussed, and how it ties into your topic. As an example if your topic is the 4th Amendment, Mapp v. Ohio regarding search and seizure would be appropriate. Discussing an article or incident that occurred is not a case law. In other words, how did your case shape the way for future cases or laws? It needs to be a "gamechanging" case. Watch your Turnitin index rating. You can submit your paper for review in the "assignments" tab as many times as necessary up until the due date, so plan accordingly. There is no password or login required. The less you copy and paste is going to result in a very low index score. If you think it is too high, it probably is. If you have not utilized the APUS Library before I would suggest that you try it out ahead of time or contact the library personnel for assistance. Only use scholarly sources. Sites such as Wikipedia, wikihow.com, Huffington Post, encyclopedias, answers.com, law firm websites, endnotes.com, wisegeek.com, etc., etc., and dictionaries (Unless Black's Law Dictionary or similar source) are not scholarly sources. If in doubt, please ask. Do not use sources or info from other countries. What happens overseas is irrelevant to this assignment. Please do not go over 1,500 words. 1,200 to 1,500 is suffice for any topic. You will not get extra points nor will it impress me if you go well over 1,500 words as it can lead to mistakes in your paper, and takes longer to grade. Avoid using quotes. Simply summarize the quote in your own words, then cite where the material came from. Avoid using "I" or "we" in research papers. Remember, this is about research and not the writer. Remember that this is a research paper and not an opinion piece. Do not copy and paste! If you list a source it must be cited somewhere in your paper and vice versa. If you fail to cite in the body of your text, or very little, do not expect anything higher than a 70%. The premise of APA style writing is in-text citing. Anything that is not common knowledge such as dates, events, percentages, money amounts, definitions, etc., or any material or ideas from a source must be cited. As an example, the fact that President Trump is the 45th President of the US is common knowledge. What Mrs. Trump's maiden name is not common knowledge, and therefore needs to be cited. Do not cite at the end of entire paragraphs. That means nothing as the reader has no idea what you are citing. Be specific with your citing. If you add conjuncture in the middle of a paragraph, then the sentence before and the info after has to be cited.
