InstructionTOPICS to cover in your PRESENTATION REGION: In your Cooking Group, choose a region of Canada FOOD PRODUCTION: Research food production in your region (what crops grow there, what food is made/produced there, climate/geography influences, what animals/fish are common, etc) CUISINE: Research the “cuisine” in your province/territory (Common dishes) CULTURAL INFLUENCES: Human factors, like the movement of people and the presence of distinct cultural groups, also plays a role in regional cuisine. Research and consider the past and present immigrant groups in your region. Is there evidence of these cultures in your local cuisine? (for example, types of foods families prepare; types of foods available in local supermarkets; types of restaurants in your community; types of foods you’ve tried before). RECIPE: Next, choose a food that is unique to your province/territory and find the recipe (with images!) a) What are the origins of the dish? b) What is the cultural significance of the dish? c) Where are the ingredients produced? RESTAURANT SEARCH: Can you find a restaurant in Toronto/GTA that has a dish or cuisine from your province/territory? We want to know where we can find it! If you can’t find a Toronto restaurant, share a local restaurant from your region that celebrates local cuisine. Make a short Google Slides/Powerpoint presentation to share the research you’ve done (consider using the headings above to help organize your research), include your recipe; AND include visuals throughout! Your presentation must have ONE element that is interactive with the audience (your class) You may want to show a quick video (or parts of it), maps, data, a physical demonstration, etc Present to class over Zoom!
