Discussion Question How and why do clinicians classify psychological disorders, and why do some psychologists criticize the use of diagnostic labels? Why is the DSM, and the DSM-5 in particular, considered controversial? Be thoughtful and critically think before answering. Cite at least one source for your response, a good post is well thought out, and at least one paragraph; respond to at least 2 classmates this week.  The responses should be well thought out and not just " I agree" or "thank you for that".  Your responses should be a minimum of 2 sentences and cite a reputable source.  Sources should be cited correctly. Assignment After watching the clip USING THE TEXTBOOK tell me what disorder is being shown.  Describe what symptoms, clues, or indicators of the disorder are proof of your "diagnosis"; and what makes this disorder dysfunctional and or maladaptive. Explain how at least 2 biological, psychological, and social-cultural factors that may interact to produce (or result in the disorder) the disorder; you may provide an example from the video if one is provided in the clip.  Your submission should be well thought out, addressing all required parts, citing any used sources, in APA 7 formatting.  The paper should be double spaced.   • Samuel Clinicians use the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders to diagnose psychological disorders. They do this because it provides a label for a specific diagnosis. Some psychologist do not like the use of diagnostic labels because it places stigmas and create bias behaviors. This bias can lead to poor treatment of the patients. The DSM particularly the DSM-5 is considered to be extremely controversial. The first reason being the pharmaceutical industries influence of the revision of the book. The second reason, is the increasing tendecy to "medicalise" patterns of behaviors and moods that are not considered to be particularly extreme (N. T. 2013) . Although these reasons have caused a lot of controversy in the health care community, there are still many providers that use it for diagnosis.
