Assignment #2: Social Psychology Theories and Concepts 1. What you will be handing in for assignment #2: a. Title page in APA format (see sample paper) b. 2-3 pages of writing, double spaced Reference page in APA format with three sources (see instructions below) 2. Your grade will be determined by whether you followed instructions (assignment length, number of sources, APA, etc.), and the quality of your work. Use the sample paper as a model! Here is your task: You’ve chosen a social issue. Now I want you to think about how some of the things you’re learning about from class can help us to understand that social issue. A) Choose three topics we have discussed in class (or are going to discuss in class). You can literally choose anything that is considered a social psychology theory or concept. . TOPICS( Group processes, Helping others, and Aggression) I am going to attach my paper below as well to use for the rest of part A B) To do so, you will have to cite three academic sources, and only ONE of these can be your notes from class. If you use multiple chapters, it doesn’t matter. You can cite all those slides, but they still only count as ONE. Define what the concept or theory is. Explain it in your own words (e.g., you might choose to use the Fundamental Attribution Error (which you would need to explain), or racism (which you would have to define). You can use readings that we have done in class or the textbook if you bought it. To find different topics, you could also Google “social psychology topics” for ideas, or use the index of the book (which you can access online). After you define or explain, tell me how this theory or concept applies to the social issue you discussed in paper one. For example, if you chose the pandemic and racism, you would define racism, and then might say that Asian Americans faced racism in the aftermath of the pandemic (news sources could be used here as evidence). Give some depth to your examples. You’ll be using part of this paper for your final assignment. C) This paper won’t look like a traditional paper with an intro, middle, and conclusion. I’d like you to use each theory/concept as a subtitle. Then write about that in a paragraph before moving on to the next. Each paragraph should be 1/3 to 1/2 a page. Double-space the whole thing. So, after the title page, it might look like this: Fundamental Attribution Error Define with examples here. Racism Define and give examples Individualism Explain and give your examples. (and so on until you’re done – then you finish with References)
