The learning objective of the assignment is to synthesize secondary and primary sources to analyze a specific topic. In effect, you are using the secondary and primary sources to understand the topic through an academic lens. Topic One: Chinese-Canadian Identity Questions on which to focus: 1) How did Chinese-Canadian identity evolve from the late nineteenth century through the period after World War Two? 2) What were the key forces that shaped Chinese-Canadian identity through that period? Sources: The three articles each focus on a different time period (late 19th century, interwar period, post-World War Two). The primary source is a documentary on the experience of Chinese-Canadian soldiers in World War Two. A documentary is not a typical primary source, of course, but it includes many interviews with Chinese-Canadian men – treat those interviews as the primary source for the purpose of this assignment. Keep in mind that you are answering specific questions for whichever topic you choose. You shouldn’t simply summarize each article – keep the analysis focused on the questions.In terms of citations – please use the Chicago Style for footnotes/endnotes and bibliography.
