InstructionLength: 2-3 pages, not including bibliography Format: MLA style for citations, 12-pt Times New Roman or 11-pt Calibri font, double spaced, 1” margins, name and date, paginated, doc/.docx/.rtf file type Task Content and Audience The content of the solution section is an organized and detailed description of the solution to the problem. As you write this section, think of your audience and remember that this is the person or small group of people who will help you achieve your goal—it may be the single person who makes a decision about whether your proposal is funded or the few people (e.g., members of an executive board in an organization) that have the authority to take the action you propose. Detail your solution with enough information so that the audience can confidently make a decision. Moreover, tailor your solution to the goals and interests of the audience. It’s a good idea to make a list of the audience’s goals and interests (What do they want to achieve generally? What are their primary motivators? What is their pre-disposition to your topic?). With those in mind, link your solution directly to the audience. One simple and straightforward way to do this is to use the same words that describe your audience’s goals to describe your solution. Organization It is usually helpful to think of your solution in its component parts, and you can even use secondary subheadings to name the parts, which will help guide your reader through what may be a complicated scene. This is especially useful when your solution requires action in a sequence of steps or timeline. Sources As we have described elsewhere, authoritative sources can help establish the validity and feasibility of your solution. If you are dealing with a problem no one else has tried to solve, you may not find published sources that cover your whole subject. In that case, consider supporting with sources that share particular components of the solution you are proposing (instead of its entirety). Alternatively, you could look at solutions to similar types of problems. In your submission for this activity, cite at least two authoritative sources in your Solution. Remember that proper documentation of research, per MLA style guidelines, requires two parts: a brief parenthetical in-text citation AND a complete bibliographic citation on a separate Works Cited list.
