InstructionRead Chapter One (pg 13-32) of the PDF Using FIVE of the sentences below, write a 2 page (double spaced) essay that explains 1) What Ehrenreich's main findings and main ideas are, and 2) WHY her work here is so important--what difficult issues does it force us to understand, or to think about differently? Be sure that you boldface the sentences that you chose so that I can find them easily. You may modify the sentences slightly so that they flow well with the rest of the essay, but be sure to keep the overall sentence structure (same fomat and punctuation, etc). SENTENCES 1) Because low-wage workers are often hit with special costs due to their inability to provide upfront money, Ehrenreich argues that there are no secret tricks to sustain the poor. 2) Ehrenreich’s co-workers often experienced demeaning behavior from the managers; nevertheless, they stayed at the job in order to survive. 3) Ehrenreich demonstrates that finding convenient housing close to employment opportunities tends to be a problem for low wage workers; similarly, it is hard to find affordable housing near employment opportunities. 4) Ehrenreich showed that low wage workers often want to stick up for themselves or their co-workers; however, they cannot afford to. 5) Even though they work long hours and often have more than one job, low-wage workers are still not able to get out of the cycle of poverty. 6) Low wage workers usually do not have health insurance; consequently, they either must miss needed shifts at work or pay out of pocket for medicine they cannot afford. 7) Ehrenreich argues that rent prices combined with low wages conflict with low wage workers ability to afford housing, which causes them to need at least one roommate. 8) Ehrenreich found out that low wage workers do not have the space to keep groceries; therefore, they have to spend more and eat unhealthily on fast food.
