Watch the short (23-minute) documentary Unstuck: An OCD Kids Movie and answer question based on the movie and use supportive evidence from the movie to answer the questions.
Unstuck offers in-depth insight into the lives of children with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and their families. Like most psychiatric disorders, OCD is experienced on a spectrum. Symptoms of OCD have the potential to become quite severe, markedly interrupting a person’s daily functioning, as is depicted by some of the children in this documentary.
Watch the video to hear first-hand how the children and their families are affected by their symptoms, as well as how they were able to learn to manage their symptoms through an evidence-based treatment. Answer the questions below in your discussion board post.
Share your critical reactions to watching the video. For example, what stood out to you in this video? What was surprising?
Compare and contrast the symptoms of OCD you observed in the video (as shared or demonstrated by the children) to what you read about OCD in the assigned readings. Are you able to recognize the symptoms and how they manifest? Give at least two examples.
In what ways did symptoms of OCD interfere with the lives of the children in the video?
