InstructionThe role of a human services professional in the juvenile justice system can vary from case manager to group therapist to probation officer. Human services professionals in this capacity have a role of assisting with the treatment and rehabilitation of the dilenquent youth. Legal issues or other factors like confidentiality and mandatory reporting can influence the way that a human services professional interacts with a juvenile. There needs to be boundaries set in place to prevent any violation of law or send the wrong message, as to the extent of the relationship, between the youth and the professional. Human services professionals can help prevent delinquent and criminal behavior by youths by showing them a better way, whether through counseling or community programs. Juveniles are handled as regular criminals in my area. In Atlanta and surrounding areas, youth delinquency is a major problem. I believe that if more rehabilitation and programs in the community were in place, there may not be as much crime. Many times, youth are bored and turn to irresponsible and delinquent behaviors.
