InstructionQuestion: (a) Identify a major theme in one of the following stories “Mirror Image”, “Maiden Wiser Than The Tsar” or “He-y Come O-ut” and, (b) in a paragraph, explain the development of that theme. Then, (c) explore a larger message that might be extracted from the writer’s coverage of that theme in the story. Success Criteria: -Clearly identifies only one major theme in the first sentence of the paragraph. The theme must be an identifiable word or phrase. -Clarifies the meaning of the theme by defining if necessary. Eg. let’s say a theme is betrayal; then, what does betrayal mean? -Provides 2-3 pieces of evidence from the text to support the theme. -Evidence provided is accurate, specific, adequate, and considered best evidence. -Transitions into evidence and doesn’t just drop sentences straight from the story into the paragraph. Eg. at first this can be seen from….this is also illustrated when… -Explains how each piece of evidence furthers our understanding of the theme. -Extracts a larger message that can be derived from the author’s development of the theme, and, for the message, is saying something different but related and not just repeating what was said before. -Write in proper sentences with proper adherence to word choice, grammar conventions, spelling, punctuation, capitalizations and spaces. -Produces original work and does not plagiarize off the internet or copy another student’s work. -Edits and revises paragraphs and doesn't deliver rough draft work. -Writes approximately 100-175 words.
