This Checklist is to help you keep track of all the work you are required to complete the fifth week (9/29/2021-10/5/2021). The videos and forums are available immediately. Some of the assignments might not be available until 9/28/2021 at 11:55PM. Complete all of the following in order. Please keep in mind, some of the items below have multiple videos to watch/assignments to complete. All of these assignments are due by October 5, 2021 at 11:55PM Eastern. If you have any questions, please let Professor McColgan know. A) 10 Coin Flips (Again) For a second time, flip a coin ten times and record the number of heads you observe. In the appropriate forum, reply to your previous coin flip forum post from and answer the following questions: Did you get the same number of heads as you did last time? Are you surprised by your answer to number 1? What do you think the average number of heads would be when flipping a coin 10 times? If we were to keep flipping the coin 10 times per week and posting our answers and found the average at the end, what do you predict the average would be? Explain your answer. Grading Rubric: You will earn one point for each question if you answer using complete sentences. You will earn a second point for each question if you answer is relevant and/or correct. B) Discrete Probability Distributions Discrete Probability distributions are used to describe discrete random variables. Discrete random variables are those which we can count. Please complete the following in order to learn more: Watch this video introduction on Discrete Random Variables. Watch this video on a discrete probability distribution when not all outcomes are equally likely (Roulette Wheels). Watch this video on determining if something is a probability distribution. Watch this video on expected value. Watch this video on Lottery Tickets: Average Loss. Log into www.myopenmath.com and complete the assessment "31: Discrete Probability Distributions". C) Binomial Distribution Statisticians noticed that different types of probability questions could be grouped into various categories which helped solve problems. These categories are called "distributions." So far, we've seen that quantitative variables can be broken up into discrete variables and continuous variables. Each of these can also be broken up further. We will concentrate on a specific type of discrete variable: the binomial distribution. Please complete the following in order to learn more: Binomial Distributions have the property that all their trials are independent. Watch this video for an explanation of what it means to be independent vs dependent in probability. Watch this video for an introduction to the binomial distribution. We will be using technology to solve Binomial Distribution Problems. Watch the following in order: Watch just first three minutes of this video.
