" Cite appropriate quotations and passages from the course readings in your answers. In addition, use examples from class discussions and lectures. Citing appropriate passages means that you should support your answer with the best material for the points you are making. This is an important skill on which you are being evaluated."
Questions:
1) Using the chapter by Golash-Boza, explain what is meant by global whiteness. Explain this in connection to at least two of these countries: The U.S., France, South Africa, and Brazil. 20 points
2) Consider our discussion of the show “True Colors” in connection with DiTomaso as well as the readings on contemporary racism in the workplace (e.g., Feagin and McKinney, Pager and Western, and/or Melaku). What are the key issues we should keep in mind about how modern-day racism is expressed? Given these factors, how would you design a study of contemporary racism? What research setting or site would you choose? What methods would you use? How would you get a sample? How would you define your variables? Be sure to create a study that is ethical and realistic. 30 points
3) What did you learn from the film, “Slavery by Another Name,” Desmond Chapter 6, and our class discussion about the methods used to re-enslave African Americans during reconstruction? How is this history connected to inequalities in policing today? Given this history, what current or proposed policies do you think will be most effective at combating inequality in policing (e.g., The Eric Garner Anti-Chokehold Act, The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, or others)? 30 points
