Diversity creates an environment inclusive of various groups, individuals and cultural characteristics. It augments inclusion creating welcoming and supporting spaces for participants. Conversely, discrimination denies access to opportunity and can affect the physical health of those being affected. Stereotypes insert preconceived notions into our lives, can alter who plays a particular position on a team, or affect the ultimate choice when a man and woman compete for the same coaching position.

Gender roles can have a major impact on our lives. Parents/guardians, media, culture, as well as other factors, often influence gender role expectations. Define gender stereotypes and describe three prevalent stereotypes associated with women involved in sport. Cite at least 1 source for the definition and 1 source for each stereotype. Name a recent example for each of the gender stereotypes you shared that occurred within the last 5 years, citing your source/s. Provide what happened and steps that could have been taken to prevent or alleviate the situation. Your work should be a minimum of 4 full pages and a maximum of 6 pages, double-spaced, not including the required CUC assignment cover sheet or the reference list. You need to include at least three relevant academic resource materials on your topic. Support the assignment with at least one citation from each of the works you selected. Use of APA format and style are required including citing sources for the ideas you discuss, paraphrase, or quote. See the Grading Rubric for Written Assignments for additional guidance.
