Project 1 I have designed it so that you can take away from this course the skills to engage in a real and practical way with the markets. This project is worth 10 marks of your overall grade Note that the marks are awarded based on the quality of the completed project. I would like you to conduct stock analysis based on the categories Benjamin Graham outlines as Defensive and Enterprising investors. Upon reading both chapters I wish you to identify either as a defensive or enterprising investor, complete definitions and guidance for these are available in the book, ‘the intelligent investor’ by Benjamin Graham. I would like you to complete the following tasks. I want you to conduct a full analysis of five firms listed either in the Saudi, US or UK exchanges, once you have chosen an exchange stay within this, you cannot opt for firms across all markets. It is up to you whether to stay within a chosen sector or to spread your choice across sectors/industries. Try and pick firms that are performing differently from one another so that you can compare and contrast the performance. For the analysis you will produce the following: 1. A full analysis performed in the style outlined in Graham’s chapters, in as far as it is possible work with at least five years of data for each firm. As Graham last updated his chapter in 1958 you will have to make modern day adjustments, read the attached commentary to each chapter to understand how to do this. You are free to update the figures further, please provide justification for this if you do so. Your report will consist of the figures that you use to justify choosing the company plus a written report on your choices. If you need guidance on how to do the analysis look to the chapters for guidance. The word limit of the report should be between 2500 and 3000 words (not including figures and appendices). I can offer additional guidance in class as you progress through the work, in the interests of efficiency please let’s keep discussions on this task to before/after class on any given Monday. Organize yourselves into groups I won’t take part in this. You cannot complete the task individually. Please aim to have finished your work on this project by March 15th. For data you can retrieve this either from the Tadawul website, from Yahoo finance or from ValueLine. You will have to buy the book, pay particular attention to chapter 4, 5,6,7, 13,14 and 15.
