InstructionEvent Analysis Attend an environmental movement event such as a direct action, march, meeting, picket, or vigil. Write a one (1) page essay about the event. You may use the “critical questions” below as the framework for the essay. Critical Questions: socio-historical context: time, place & people - When & where was the event? Who was attending/participating? power, politics & the state - Were they addressing issues of power, the state, or politics? What is the main theory used for analysis? Can you discern the theoretical approach of the event/organizers? What does the theory used bring to the analysis? What are the problems or issues – root causes & immediate context – discussed? What solutions are proposed? Is social change – reform or revolutionary (anti-capitalist) – part of the solution? Who/what are the agents of this change? How are they organized? Through the lens of a student: What is most useful/successful/important about this event? What could be improved/different? Personal reflection: How did this event help you shape your own intellectual & political worldview? How did it help you shape your theoretical perspective & your practice – your action orientation (aka Praxis)?
