Discussion: Questions on the Dissertation Process Note: Please complete this discussion before submitting the Week 11 Application Assignment. This last week of class, you may have ideas about steps in the Dissertation process that may feel challenging, and questions for the Instructor on any one of a number of topics from the course. This is your chance to ask for feedback, support, and insight in meeting challenges, and for clarification of other questions or concerns from the Instructor. Your Discussion thread post likely will benefit everyone in class. Although you will identify challenges you anticipate, and support or ideas would be useful, it is important, as well, to understand the next steps and the entire process. The Dissertation Process Worksheet. In this Discussion, you will describe anticipated challenges in the Dissertation process, request support and ideas from your colleagues, and ask any questions you may have on next steps. To prepare for this Discussion, review the Dissertation Process Worksheet, listed in your Learning Resources, together with other Dissertation resources, including the article 6 Things Your Dissertation Director Wishes You Knew. This Worksheet outlines all the steps in the Dissertation process and will be your guide throughout your program. QUESTION: 1 to 2 pages Describe any factors you anticipate will present challenges in the next steps in the Dissertation process, in terms of time, other obligations, and so on. Describe support and ideas that would be helpful to you. Post your questions on any topic in the course and on next steps in the Dissertation process. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Introduction You have reached the final week of the course. Congratulations on all that you have achieved so far. The focus of your work in Week 10 was to revise and submit the second and final draft of your Prospectus, which constitutes this courses Final Project. Throughout the course, your instructor has provided feedback to you on each section of your Prospectus, as well as on the entire draft. Your grade on the final draft of your Prospectus that you submitted in Week 10 constitutes 50 percent of your course grade. A satisfactory grade on that Final Project, and passing the course, indicates that the instructor has approved your Prospectus as being of sufficient quality and rigor that you will have achieved this milestone. At that point, you will be prepared to work with your committee toward their approval of your Prospectus. After committee approval, you move on to begin your Proposal. In this final week, even though your Final Project was graded in Week 10, you have one more chance for feedback from one colleague. This feedback may be helpful as you move on to working with your Dissertation committee chair and committee member, toward writing the final Prospectus for their approval. The final two components of Week 11, and, therefore, the course, are designed for you to ask questions on the Dissertation process and to determine a timeline for completion of your Dissertation. Week 11 ends with recommended resources for the next phase of your Dissertation development. As you learn about the Dissertation process and all the necessary steps along the way, enjoy the process of achieving milestones and meeting your goals. This process brings many challenges, including accepting constructive criticism and staying organized. Completing your Premise and then your Prospectus is an important milestone because it serves as the basis for the development of your Proposal. Remember, the hardest part of a journey is often the first step. To reiterate the quote from the Course Introduction: To get through the hardest journeys, we need take only one step at a time, but we must keep on stepping.Chinese proverb All best wishes as you continue your Dissertation journey.
