Assignment #1: Chicana/os and Educational Institutions



According to Gilbert G. Gonzalez (" Segregation and the Education of Mexican Children, 1900-1940 Segregation and the Education of Mexican Children, 1900-1940 ") and Dolores Delgado Bernal (Chicana/o Education from the Civil Rights Era to the Present) how have governmental policies (i.e. segregation, school funding) and school practices (i.e. bilingual educational programs, lack of caring relationships with teachers, etc.) mattered to the academic achievement of Chicana/os? Provide at least one example from both the Bernal and the Gonzalez readings. Be specific.
