You are required to write a midterm paper examining a current event in Israel/Palestine; your paper should focus on a particular event that you find relevant and compelling. You must examine the way the story is reported in either (1) one dominant media source and one alternative media source or (2) one Jewish Israeli media source and one Palestinian media source. Your paper should focus particular attention to the language used in each as well as theays in which the story is reported similarly or differently depending on the source. Analyze the sources closely, and compare and contrast the way the different sources convey a particular narrative, message, or political agenda. What does this current event say about the narrative of each group? What is the historical context or backdrop to the event? How does this event give you greater insight into everyday life in Israel/Palestine? We will have a discussion on dominant and alternative media sources the first week of class. Paper requirements: 2-4 double-spaced pages in length.
