Watch this video and answer to the following questions:
Do you question any of the information in the video?
What new information did you learn?
What information provided in the video is supported by your text?
What are the primary factors that affect heart disease?
Also, give a little comment to replies of other 2 students:
1st student: The video overall is very informative. It provides information on risk factors that might lead to CHD, emphasizes important laboratory values that should be monitored to diagnose the disease, and ways of managing these values through diet, exercise, and supplemental therapy. I am questioning a statement made by a speaker regarding cholesterol levels in the blood. Michael McEvoy suggests that “last thing we wanna do is to decrease cholesterol” in people whose cholesterol value is high (2014). He states that there is no point to lowering cholesterol because it does not prevent or improve CVD but increases the risk of heart failure, stroke and pancreatic dysfunction (McEvoy, 2014). His statement contradicts the information provided in the textbook that reduces chances of plaque formation leading to atherosclerosis and CHD; the desirable total cholesterol level has to be under 200 mg/dL (Dudek, 2014).
I found it interesting that the speaker emphasizes the importance of such factors as a genetic mutation which predisposes a person to problems with the heart, hyperinsulinism that sets up the process of vascular issues, and inflammation driving vascular disease process in heart disease prevention. He recommends not to ignore these factors when lowering cholesterol levels which I totally agree with because nothing should be ignored when it comes to a person’s health.
The video provides multiple information supported by Dudek’s textbook. It suggests that genetics, diet, sedentary lifestyle, and obesity increase risks of CVD. The negative influence of alcohol on a person’s health is also supported by both sources. Alcohol increases blood pressure, triglyceride levels, and causes other health risks that overtime may lead to heart problems.
Poor nutrition, inactivity/ immobility, inflammation, genetic predisposition (non-modifiable factor) are primary factors of heart disease. Increased consumption of foods high in sugar and trans fats, use of processed foods in a diet may lead to heart problems. Increased glucose results in damage to blood vessels but regular exercise decreases its risk by burning excessive glucose. Blood pressure can be regulated by changes in nutrition decreasing risks for heart issues.
2nd student: My concern is in the levels of cholesterol in the body. High cholesterol in the body is what causes clogging of the blood vessels hence leading to cardiovascular complications; therefore, individuals should consume foods that will maintain the optimum cholesterol needed by the body to perform other functions. Lowering cholesterol levels if they are too high is critically essential.
Cholesterol plays an anti-inflammatory role in the body by repairing worn-out cells and other damaged tissues. Also, cardiovascular diseases are multifactorial, and therefore the underlying causes should be dealt with and not the symptoms. Some drugs administered for lowering cholesterol levels actually do more harm than good in that they result in heart failure and stroke. Red meat is not the main cause of high uric acid in the body, rather consumption of foods reach in fructose ("Nutrition & Heart Disease: 7 Major Blood Tests & Cholesterol Myths", 2017).
Cholesterol is essential for other body functions and should not only be regarded to as harmful in the body.
The primary causes of heart disease include genetic mutations whereby in the modern era, genetic mutations are accelerated by sedentary lifestyle; Hyperinsulinemia as a result of high insulin levels in the bloodstream; and inflammation due to toxicity by heavy metal poisoning, high glucose and insulin levels in the blood.
And have at least 1 reference in the APA format.
Another discussion topic is this: COLLAPSE
Identify your strengths and weaknesses regarding your NCLEX preparedness. Which topics do you find most challenging and which topics do you feel confident in? What will you do to increase your knowledge in topics you find challenging? Additionally, identify challenges you faced with the ATI tests (e.g., time management, test format, confusing instructions, stress). How will you address these concerns when it is time for your NCLEX exam?
Make it up, but overall let it be that I am pretty much prepared with some doubts and room to get better. I still have one year until NCLEX
These assignment is due 9 pm Pacific Time (Los Angeles)
