Instruction
By Tuesday, November 21, you will send the instructor a proposal for your essay topic focusing on a single reading or experience that has prompted your more general inquiry. After reading this entire handout, consider a question you would like to explore and connect it to something we have read or discussed in class, perhaps including wider problems and/or processes for trying to solve them you observed in the Athens game.
You will then write 250-500 words in which you should do the following in whatever order makes sense: summarize the source or experience, explain why it has prompted your inquiry, and indicate the general question you will be trying to answer. It’s okay, maybe even better, if you don’t yet know your eventual thesis, but if you do have a tentative one, go ahead and mention it. (Your proposal paper is not yet the place to make the argument.) — You may be able to incorporate some of this material into your final.
