Your goal in this paper is to analyze a range of approaches for dealing with a specific victims’ rights issue. We know that victimization is a problem so you don’t need to explain why it is bad to abuse children or defraud the public. Instead, tell me about the nature of the problem: a. basics of the victimization – who is the victim, the offender, the nature of the harm b. the extent or scope of the problem - how many victims; consequences of the victimization for victim, government, society (costs in money, sense of insecurity, etc.) c. what happens if we don’t solve this problem? These can be in the form of endnotes, footnotes, or parenthetical references, depending on your choice of style manual. A citation gives credit to the person who is the source of the idea. In these kinds of papers, most every idea or piece of information in the paper is from someone else. That means that many sentences and certainly every paragraph will include a citation, giving credit to the author of that material. If you turn in a paper without citations, you will receive 0 points for the assignment. This means you will fail the class. You must properly cite. I urge you to take your paper to the Writing Center and ask them to review it, including your citations. You will include a Works Cited or a Bibliography (that includes every source you reference in the paper. The style manual you use will determine whether you use a Works Cited page or a bibliography. 3. Plagiarism Do not plagiarize. This means you may not use materials written by someone else without identifying the source. You should not attempt to take credit for material that is not yours. If you do use others’ materials, give them credit in a citation. You are at risk of plagiarism if you copy and paste someone else’s material into your document even if you cite the material . You should be using others’ works as sources to support the argument you are making, the content you are presenting. You should avoid using more than a few direct quotes in the paper.
