Power Point Assignment Requirements
CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING BOOKS TO CHOOSE FROM: PILLOWBOOK, BEOWULF, or ILLIAD. YOU CAN ONLY USE ONE FOR THIS PROJECT!!!
The Power Point must consist of 15-20 slides. It can cover any of the works we have read this summer.
1. Biography of the author. You may use general reference works, except Wikipedia (not a consistent/reliable source). Remember to list your sources on the Works Cited Page.
2. Literary Period or Time Period in which the work was written. Your textbook is set up by Literary Periods. You could further research this and discuss the influences of the period. What was going on at the time, i.e., social values, cultural influences, historical influences, etc.
Or research the time period in which the work was written and discuss the same topics as in A.
You may use general reference works, except Wikipedia (not a consistent/reliable source). Remember to list your sources on the Works Cited Page.
3. This slide is where you talk about the work itself (i.e, Hamlet, Beowulf). Speak to the following:
Genre? Epic, Play, Comedy, Fiction, Novel
A very brief synopsis of the work. I know the stories.
Characters - Write a few important details about each of the main characters and any significant minor characters.
Quotations: Choose three significant quotations from the work. Copy the quote; identify the speaker, the situation and the significance of the quote. Use appropriate in-text citations. You will cite the textbook for this source on the Works Cited page.
Themes - What are the major themes of the work. Explain at least two main theses.
4. Literary Criticism
Locate one scholarly articles (Galileo, JSTOR, etc.) which discuss the work. Summarize the article, working in one or two direct quotes. This will be a very important part of your Power Point. You will cite the sources on the Works Cited page.
Other things to consider:
Feel free to add pictures (this is where you can be creative), but make sure the background are appropriate to your subject. Can I read the text on the slides easily against the background? Is the text on the screen pleasingly arranged? Do not rely on just pictures though. Text is important.
Do not try and cram a lot of information onto one slide. Be discriminating in the information you provide. As you will not be presenting your Power Point in an oral presentation, the visual aspect of this power point assignment is important.
Grammar and mechanics: Is the Power Point free of grammatical and typographical errors?
MLA Style: Make sure the Works Cited and in-text citations are correct.
Content and Research: How much serious attention did you give to this project?
Remember: Plagiarism is intellectual theft. If you use information and do not credit the source, that is considered plagiarism.
