Assignment 2: LASA I—Autobiographical Reflection Paper
Reflecting is a tool that allows you to learn more about yourself. You must consider how your experiences have given you moments of privilege, oppression, and power. These moments where you experienced power, oppression, or privilege not only have an impact upon your own lives but have also influenced the relationships and successes of others.
In this assignment, you will write an autobiographical account reflecting on your place in education and society based on the concepts of power and privilege. The key question to explore is "How have I come to be who I am?" Consider the influence of your various identities such as race, ethnicity, social class, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and geographic location as well as their evolution over time.
Complete your paper in the following four parts:
Part 1: Describe your reflections on a time, issue, or experience where you were the target of oppression.
Part 2: Describe your reflections on a time, issue, or experience where you were the agent of oppression.
Part 3: Identify the impact of these identities on your teaching practice. Be sure to provide examples of this impact.
Part 4: Explain what you will do now to assess your teaching practices in terms of modifications or changes to ensure full inclusion.
As you develop your paper, be sure to address the following points:
Describe how you identify yourself. Identify each of the following as it relates to you: gender, ethnicity/race/nationality, religion, social class, geography, schooling, occupational and career goals, sexual identity, family, language, disability or illness, age, politics, etc.
