The Seven Wastes
Overproduction
There are multiple of cases of overproduction of cars in the U.S. and around the world. Instead of giving these unused cars to people, they just sit in lots and add up throughout the years. These cars end up not being used at all and rust in the lots that currently are parked in.

Waiting
My example for waiting are the patients who must wait in waiting rooms all the time. Usually hospital will take appointments first, but you can’t schedule when an emergency is going to happen. Therefore, hospitals take the most crucial patients first and then go down the list. Either way there are always patients who will have to wait for open rooms, doctors to become available, etc.

Transporting
An example of transporting is when hospitals must transfer patients from one department to another. Depending on how the patient is doing he or she can be moved from and ICU department to a more critical unit or vice versa.

Over processing
An example of over processing is ordering unnecessary tests for patients that aren’t only a waste of time, but a big waste of money. This is also a big problem for patients who dont have the time or reasoning for these tests.

Inventory
A good example of inventory going to waste is when grocery store inventory is not used and is just thrown out. The reason it goes to waste is because product can be overstocked that don’t have a long lifetime such as fruits and vegetables, and items that pass their selling dates. This is a big waste of inventory.

Movement
Poorly structured work spaces can waste a lot of time when workers are looking for tools or documents that aren’t properly organized. This can cause employee turnover, low productivity, and low growth.

Defects
An example of a defect is when wrong food has been delivered to a table in a restaurant. This can cost the restaurant a lot of time and money if it is done often. The restaurant has to fix the mistake while having to keep the party calm, so they don’t lose business twice.
