I think the reason men are more likely to die in a residential fire is because men have the attitude that they are the man of the house and that they are responsible for what happens. In the power points it talks about how men are more likely to try to stop the fire, rather than get out and wait for the fire department, which is something I can see my dad doing this same thing. In the power points it also said that men tend to fall asleep while having a cigarette lit, which I find surprising. I know for my family the men are very protective of their wives and children and if there was such thing as a house fire to happen they would risk their life to make sure their families were safe. I also have known my father to be burning a brush pile that got a little bigger than anticipated so outside fires could be a reason as well.
second respond:
During residential fires, men are more likely to be injured due to several reasons, and one of them is that they are most likely run into a burning building to save someone. According to safety protocols for managing residential fires, people are supposed to exit the burning building hurriedly. Trying to determine the cause of a fire or the presence of individuals in the burning building might leave little room for survival as the fire becomes bigger and more aggressive. Most men fail to consider that emergency personnel are well equipped and trained to handle such fires and that as a result, their input is unnecessary. It is important for them to remember that without proper training and fire handling equipment, an individual cannot do anything much besides endangering their life. Another thing to consider is that males tend to have alcoholic beverages in the house and become inebriated. Once asleep, it is difficult to remain alert enough to detect a fire in the event of its occurrence.
