Instruction
Total Points Available – 100
Part of the mission of this course is to empower students to assess their own sexual attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. The purpose of the Love Map Paper assignment is to facilitate this process. Students are to create a table of inclusion and exclusion criteria [lust/disgust triggers, as discussed in class] and organize a paper explaining their criteria.
Your paper will be graded according to the following:
Introduction– 10 Points Available
Begin by giving a brief background of your history regarding attraction. When did you realize your attraction was awakening, how did that manifest? When did you begin dating? were there any family, friendship, cultural, environmental influences on when and where and how you begin to explore your romantic attraction to others? Include your memories of your first celebrity crush[es] and your first IRL crush[es], paying particular attention to your earliest memories of any of the triggers that impact your Love Map still today.
LoveMap Table– 50 Points Available
A sample template is included for you to fill in with your own triggers. You may copy/paste this template into your assignment, or create something similar that serves the same purpose visually. You will lose points for clarity if your triggers are not clear and plainly visible. Once you have set your triggers into a table, be certain to weight them according to strength. Distribute your Lust and Disgust Triggers in one of five regions to indicate their relative importance to you in responding to a potential partner.
CATEGORIES: as you can see from the included table template, you need to include inclusion criteria (lust triggers) and exclusion criteria (disgust triggers) in three different categories: physical attributes(anatomical traits- the shallow stuff!), social-cultural attributes(things the person identifies with, such as groups they belong to, demographics they fit into, participation in certain activities, etc) and cognitive-emotional attributes (these are their personality and behaviors, etc).
TRIGGERS: your chart needs a minimum of four triggers in each box, which is a total of 24 triggers. you can have more than four if you like, but a minimum of four is required for full credit.
UNIQUENESS: at least ten of these triggers must be unique. this means that you want to avoid using such banal and commonly cited triggers as "sense of humor" or "nice smile". I am looking for evidence of thoughtful introspection into what makes you a unique, individual snowflake, with a unique, individual Love Map that is different from every other human that has ever lived. The secret to scoring sufficient Uniqueness Credit is to play up the description of your triggers in your Descriptors section, described below.
Descriptors of Triggers – 30 Points Available
In this written section [use bullet points or a list for this section], you will explain and give examples of the triggers you have listed in your chart. For the sake of space, you can keep labels in your table to one or two words; the written "Descriptors" section is where you will describe what they mean to you. Be certain to spend extra time on the ten triggers you are promoting for uniqueness credit; if you have more than ten, that is fine [and always a good idea], but you want to have at least ten triggers that you go into detail about, and describe how unique these triggers are to you and your own personal Love Map. It is also a good idea to offer some background to your unique triggers, such as aspects of past relationships that seem to have influenced your response to them, or examples of celebrities that have certain traits so that I can clearly understand the triggers. Attached image files, gifs, video clips, articles, etc are all allowed [and encouraged] to get your point across.
Conclusion – 10 Points Available
Wrap up what you have learned from composing this Love Map paper. Did you learn anything about yourself? Did you experience any epiphanies or "Ah-Ha!" Moments while creating your Love Map chart? Is this something that you think you will keep adding on to after you graduate or leave school?
Grammar & Spelling will be graded.
length will not be graded
your paper cannot be too long or short; you will be graded on whether you follow directions and sufficiently answer the posed questions.
