Strategic Management = Strategic Planning + Implementation + Control
This section of the text illustrates the blending of the management functions to develop a strategic plan to not just react to change but to use it as a tool to leverage change into business profitability. Strategic planning is a double edged sword. Change is unpredictable. Too rigid business, tactical and strategic planning will leave a firm unable to react to changing conditions. No plan at all will leave them constantly reacting to change rather than leading it. Think of your personal life, the old saying, "most peoples plans don't fail, most people fail to plan", is very true. Your assignment for this week is as follows:
1. Define the difference between strategic, operational and tactical plans.
2. There's a new acronym being used on Wall Street: FANG. That stands for Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google. These are the companies that are redesigning the future. Pick one of those companies. Do a bit of research on the web and describe what you think has been their approach to strategic planning and why they have been so successful at it.
Finally just a reminder before you get started that the typical response that receives full credit is about 600 words in length.
