Instruction
Discuss Alexander Hamilton and why he was chosen as secretary of treasury. Mention Hamiltons financial plan to get America out of debt. Mention alliance with France. Mention relationship between Hamilton and Jefferson when grading Washington. Domestic- The 2 hated each other but were deemed smartest people for the job. Judge Washington based on how he let Jefferson and Hamilton work out deals by themselves. Hamilton's plan to pay off debt was 7 cents in gold or silver, Washington knew that a few years back Shay's rebellion was caused bc of taxes were paid in gold & silver but Washington decides to go through with it starting the whiskey rebellion. so Washington grabs 13,000 troops to end the rebellion(there are other ways to get out of debt), maybe slowly start taxing.. using paper money instead of gold or silver for taxes. Foreign- Washington sends Chief Justice John jay to London to negotiate a treaty in last attempt to avoid war. Jays negotiates were sabotaged by Hamilton. Hamilton feared war with Britain so he told Britain details of jays treaty. Washington did nothing to Hamilton no consequences, nothing. ... Talk about France, England, ad Spain. Take into consideration while grading him. These are just some of my thoughts I need help putting them together .. George Washingtons had a straight forward style to his leadership, he had a social aspect to get others to work issues out. Is he a bad president for allowing Hamilton and Jefferson to make most decisions. Discuss foreign and domestic affairs, should Washington have some leeway because he was the first president and never seen it done before?... There could be more information to go into this, you really just have to know your history... I was thinking I would give Washington a C in Domestic bc he chose the right man to get the job done but he also acted like he hand say in what Hamilton was doing.. Maybe a D in foreign bc Hamilton sabotaged the treaty which led to a war.. and Hamilton had no sort of punishment.. and for allowing the 2 men who hated each other the most try nd work out issues together. ILL DROP SOME OF THE SLIDES WE USED IN CLASS,.
