The final paper is designed to be an application of certain theories that you have studied during the semester. The paper should be 5 typed and double-spaced. Two challenges of teaching and learning life-span development are that it is difficult to disentangle our own life experiences from those of people in general and it is difficult to tie together material learned about infancy with that of old age. One way that we can confront this issue is through a final essay. At the beginning of the semester each student will be assigned a fictional baby who they will follow through each phase of the life course. The baby you are assigned will be born into particular life circumstances and will have specific characteristics. Instruction
Your papers should be organized—you should be developing a central idea in each section and the reader should be able to follow the logic of your argument, based on the developmental stage. Each paragraph should have coherent themes and paragraphs should follow each other in an organized manner. Read over the paper to be sure that there is a logical order in place. Group together similar ideas-for instance, school issues would naturally be placed together, as would end of life circumstances. Watch for grammatical errors—particularly sentence fragments and run-on sentences. More than 5 spelling or grammatical errors will result in points deducted from the final grade.
