Instruction
Post a detailed description of the issue you have chosen for your research and a preliminary statement of the facts and controversies. approx 1000 words.
1. describe the issue/conflict that caught your attention. Be as specific as you can.
Rather than "immigration" as a topic (which is the size of an apartment building) narrow it down to "refugee immigrants from Syria" ( the size of a breadbox) or "those most likely to be considered as "illegal immigrants" are people of color? USNEWS Illegal Aliens? Explain why you think this issue is worth your time and effort. 200 words minimum
2. Outline what you have learned about the factual basis of this issue (not what you think about it or someone's opinion but what FACTS you have researched). You will need at least three factual sources such as research institutes that study the problem, numbers and charts, data. You may use bullet points but the result must be at least 500 words.
3. Then summarize the controversy around this issue. (How are different groups interpreting those facts.) You need a source for each opinion. Again you may divide this with bullet points but you should have at minimum of 450 words.
3. Present the research that you used to learn about this topic.
You need A MINIMUM of six sources for this portion. The final bibliography will require at least 8-10 sources so keep track of the places you visit and assemble the bibliographic information as you go.
Work smartly - if you use correct bibliographic referencing here, you will save yourself time later.
Use the MLA8 tab in EAsyBib to help format your bibliography correctly.
Since the choice of issue will affect the rest of your research, think about this carefully and present as much information as possible in this preliminary post. You may find that your focus changes once you really begin to research the issue and you can make changes as you go forward.
