Instruction
Your response to the following prompt should be at least 500 words and written in MLA format (Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced, appropriate header with your name, my name, course name, and date). A successful response will:
1. Make a specific claim (thesis) about the text.
2. Support that claim with evidence from the text, including at least one direct quote.
3. Be written clearly.
As a fourth, optional, goal, you can try to connect an event in the text with your own personal experiences. I encourage you to be creative with your responses and to use them to explore ideas for possible paper topics.
I strongly discourage referencing online sources to complete the reading responses. Responses that paraphrase interpretations or summaries found online will not receive credit. Remember to avoid excessive summary in general; write your response with the assumption that your audience is familiar with the text and does not require a summary.
Response #4: In August Wilson’s Fences how do "fences" (real and metaphorical) create conflict between characters? Who builds these emotional "fences," and why? Are "fences" taken down?
