Instruction
Part A: Training and Development
Using the material from Chapter 6 of your textbook and module, write a three-page report (approximately 700 words) that answers the questions listed below
1. Describe and analyze the training and development opportunities available in an organization you have worked in. Begin by describing the training and development (including what is done and how it is done) then assess the effectiveness of the training and development in terms of what is done and how it is done. This should be done comparing the best practices you have read in the course material. Identify any gaps and provide suggestions for improvement, including any innovative programs that could work in the organization. Make sure you define the key concepts. (15 marks)
2. Based on your course material, explain at least four different ways in which managers can assist in the career development of their employees. (Do not include mentoring as it is covered in #3 below) (10 marks)
3. What role, if any, does mentoring play in training and development in your organization? Make sure you defined the concept and if not used, how you would propose to use mentoring (10 marks)
Part B: Employee Orientation and Socialization
You have successfully recruited someone to take over your position and need to make sure that they are smoothly transitioned into the organization through an effective orientation and socialization program.
Using the ideas you generated in the mind mapping exercise in Module 3, Activity 1: Part C, and the course material, develop an effective orientation and socialization program for the new employee you have recruited. Make sure you define the key concepts and explain why you believe the orientation and socialization will achieve the intended purpose. Make sure you follow the best practices from the course material (35 marks)
Part C: Performance Management
1. Consider the description that you have designed in Assignment 2. Choose one of the key duties, and consider a scenario whereby an individual is struggling in their performance of one of these key duties. Start with a brief paragraph describing the task of performance management. What is it? Then write a script to deliver feedback about the issue; ensure that you:
a. Explain the purpose of the meeting including what the duty is.
b. Define your expectations (assuming you are the employees manager)
c. Provide overall performance feedback. This needs to be in a dialogue format, what will you say, what you anticipate the individual will say, and so on.
d. Describe how you will achieve an action plan for improvement with the individual by the end of the discussion and spell out what that plan is and how it will be assessed
Make sure you follow the best practices from the textbook in order to construct this script.
2. Run through the scenario with a friend or family member, briefly describe how the conversation may have gone differently than you had planned.
