Learning Activities: choose one of the following. Complete it in a 1 - 2 page paper using the guidelines given in the syllabus. Option 1: Durkheim's Typology of Suicide Using the description of Durkheim's typology of suicide given on page 127 as a starting place, do a Google search of Durkheim on suicide. Write a paper describing each of the types and cite examples from recent news to illustrate each of the types. Be sure to be specific, include sufficient detail and cite all of your sources. Option 2: Social Structure The lecture notes include a diagram of the levels of the social structure. Where and how do you fit on each of the levels? In other words, What are your statuses (aside from but including student)? What roles accompany each status? Name some groups that you belong to. What statuses exist within the group? How do they fit into the institutional structure? Option 3: Stress Scales Take the Holmes and Rahe stress test at this link: http://www.geocities.com/beyond_stretched/holmes.htm What is your score? According to your book, what happens if an individual has a score of 200 or more? Do some additional research on the the link between stress and health, if necessary. What can you do/have you done to minimize the risk to your health? What would be some less effective means of responding? How can you minimize the risk of an inappropriate response?
