Reading Responses: Primary Sources Questions (include page numbers so you can find the passages that support your claims) 1. Assess what that means in terms of its reliability as a historical document. 2. What do you make of the accusation made against the woman in question? What factors seem to have led to her being treated as somehow criminal or deviant? What laws or moral ideas seem to have influenced this? 3. What do you think of the way she is treated by the court, by authorities, by her community, or by the person who wrote about her, if known? 4. Assess the testimony offered against her, if any. Ask yourselves why she was accused of a crime, how she came to be suspected, and why she may have done what is alleged against her. 5. What do you make of the sentence, if any, passed against her? 6. What do you learn about law, crime, trials, punishment, and gender in the particular time and place in question?
