Instruction
1. Develop a consent form for audio recording. This must include what the recording is being used for, include full course title, department, and college), that this is NOT confidential, how the recording will be stored, who will have access to the recording, and plans to delete recording following transcription. You can find many examples of templates online. As you find templates pay attention to where your template comes from, is it a credible source?
2. Conduct a 15 minute interview with a peer on their semester. This is the first line of your interview: “This interview is being audio recorded. Do you consent to being audio recorded?” The answer should be: Yes. Anything other than yes you thank the person for their time, immediately stop, and find someone else. You must have a signed consent form AND verbal consent. You can prep for this interview as you see fit. You have a general topic: the semester, but other than that you get to decide if you would prefer a structured or unstructured interview.
3. Transcribe said interview. You will delete the audio recording of the interview once the interview has been transcribed. Include all pauses and sounds. This should read as a script, for example:
Interviewer: Blah.
Interviewee: Blah blah blah. Um.... Blah blah blah.
Interviewer: [pause] Blah.
4. Review transcription line by line and identify use of ALL skills learned so far. For example, identify openers, minimal encouragers, content reflections, feeling reflections, open questions, closed questions, paraphrasing, etc. Include notes on non verbal cues and rapport building. You will submit two copies. One plain, one marked up. While I expect the marked up one to be messy, you must make it legible.
5. Write a two page paper breaking down your experience with the interview. Be self reflective as you consider which skills came easier or harder for you. Discuss rapport building and your comfort level as you conducted the interview.
This assignment will include multiple elements. You are expected to submit a signed consent to audio record, one unmarked transcript, one marked transcript, and a two page paper. The paper should be in APA format. Any sources used in the creation of the consent to audio record should be referenced.
